Windows path: WinUAE is used as the emulation engine. The wrapper generates a .uae config at launch time and runs WinUAE silently. Packages include VBS + BAT launchers. Optional EXE bundling via PyInstaller.
REQUIRED
✓
Python 3.7+
Runs the wrapper tool itself. Must be added to PATH during install — tick "Add Python to PATH" on the installer screen.
Note: WinUAE and Kickstart ROMs must be downloaded manually — they cannot be installed via package manager.
macOS path: FS-UAE is used as the emulation engine. The wrapper generates an .fs-uae config and a .command launcher. Optional .app bundle via PyInstaller. Homebrew is the easiest path for dependencies.
REQUIRED
✓
Python 3.7+ with tkinter
macOS ships Python 2 only. Install Python 3 from python.org or Homebrew. The python.org installer includes tkinter.
ChromeOS note: The wrapper runs inside the Linux container (Crostini). Enable it once in Settings, then everything works like a standard Linux install.
STEP 0 — ENABLE LINUX CONTAINER
✓
Linux (Crostini) — enable once
Settings → Advanced → Developers → Linux development environment → Turn On. Takes a few minutes, one-time only.
Linux path: FS-UAE from system packages. Python 3 + tkinter from apt/dnf/pacman. The wrapper generates .fs-uae configs and .sh launchers. Same path as ChromeOS Crostini.
REQUIRED
✓
Python 3 + tkinter
Python 3 is usually present. The tkinter binding is a separate package on most distros.
